Import 4-way switch?

I need one for my guitar project.

Problem is that cavity of the guitar is too shallow for Oak Grigsby style switch. And I'm having hard time finding way to lay out controls I want with regular 5-way switch. In fact I have to make compromises I don't want to make.

Ideally I'd need import-style 4-way blade switch, but all I find are Oak Grigsby-type. Does such exists?

I just went through this, and couldn't find an import 'style' switch (I'm assuming you mean the sealed box style.) I ended up with an import switch styled like the standard Fender/Oak, and had to do a *tiny* bit of Dremel work to make it fit.

What kind of switch you found? Regular Grigsby has tabs on the bottom, I don't quite see how you can Dremel that to fit?

If I Dremel the cavity anymore, I go through the back of guitar...

Re: Import 4-way switch?

Have you tried looking at a VLX91? I have an active thread trying to retrofit an Ibanez S-series which are notorious for having thin and small electronics cavities. The VLX is very compact and as long as you don't have the issue I have with a "lip" where the switch mounts it might be a good choice for you. In fact I'd be happy to sell you mine as I ended up going with a different option, an EP1112 which required slight modification to fit and while larger than the VLX still manages to fit in an S-series body.

Pictures, measurements, and discussion all in this thread:

Afraid I can't remember the brand-sorry. But I was able to fit it in an import guitar with *very* minor Dremel work, along with some careful tweaking of the solder tabs.

Thanks. Looks like that might work.

Though I do prefer 4-way switch...

Re: Import 4-way switch?

Yeah I knew it wasn't exactly what you were looking for, but thought it might be a viable workaround for you. If you're interested in buying let me know, VLX's can be hard to come by, they don't seem to be readily available off the shelf at places like Amazon, etc

I guess shipping to Finland makes that bit pricey?

Re: Import 4-way switch?

Well, after figuring out the scheme, I'm now leaning towards 3-way import. That should work just fine in this case.
