Impulse buy, Decided I needed the biggest amp in the city.

The title is Hyperbole and about tube amps (Fender 400 aside) -so spare me your Solid State 1000 Watt comments :lmao:

I bought the Kramer/Travis Bean Bass a few days ago for tracking some stuff on a new record, but my GK head is a one tone/trick pony so naturally I took this shortfall in functional need to purchase a new amp yesterday.

The Sunn 300T - a 300 Watt 6 6550 tube bohemoth that is very similar to an Ampeg SVT except it has 2 mixable channels (clean and dirty) and onboard compression limiting. Effects loop, channel switching with pedal, multi control foot switching, 10 band Graphic EQ with semi parametric preamp EQ dials too, direct un and balanced out, tuner out, speaker emulation out, low-noise differential effects loop for signal processing.

These amps are very reliable if you service the surface mount solder point joint semi annually. the vibration of 300 Watts tends to create some cold solder issues over time

It' giant, it's ungodly heavy, it's legendary, and it sounds amazing.

Maybe I'll do some sound clips . -It's pretty much the most versatile tonally speaking bass amp ever made.

It will never roll out of my studio -thats a fact...

Happy NAD!! Yeah, Ill bet that thing will shake some foundations! Pretty interesting.. Ive always kinda lusted for a Ampeg SVT. not that I need it, just that it seems like the coolest bass amp with all those tubes. I know Sunns are legendary and this has the tubes too, and I like the 2 mixable channels.

I might suggest wearing some kind of protection when cranking that beast...you don't want any of your "delicate parts" shriveling up and falling off!

:)

LMAO!! True!! Sterilization by vibration

Re: Impulse buy, Decided I needed the biggest amp in the city.

It's not, though.... bassists routinely use 5-10x more wattage, so it's pretty midsized

Example:
https://www.altomusic.com/mesa-boogie-carbine-900-watt-bass-head
fairly popular **900**-watter

Affordable Peavey *practice* combos ranged from like 120 to 350w last I looked

yeah, Ive always read/heard that bass needs alot more wattage/power/volume to compete with guitar..
I cant imagine playing thru something like this Sunn or the 900 watt mesa. I have an Ampeg 115 combo that I think is 80watts and it'll cause some serious rumble

****insert Debbie Downer music****

I was referring to biggest tube amps.... Solid State amps are for Pawn Store suckers. -And yeah, I know all about the Fender 400 -I was just using Hyperbole. There is ALWAYS a bigger amp.

that is a beast of an amp! enjoy

Re: Impulse buy, Decided I needed the biggest amp in the city.

what a beautiful beast that is...had a fender 100W bassman for a time an it sounded like a B-17 taking off...rattling windows and all...I know because a few show up at an annual airshow close by every year...

That'll rattle your back teeth.

Gargantuan Congratulations! That is a Major Monster and does bring back some great memories of life before we started putting mics in front of all these tiny amps.

Re: Impulse buy, Decided I needed the biggest amp in the city.

Hells to the yeahs!! That thing is kick ass. I want some sound clips :)

Biggest amp I've ever had was a Sovtek MIG100 - 4 x 6L6 tubes in AB. It had so much bottom end that my bass player told me to take all the bass out of the eq. The Sunn will freakin' kill!

I love amps where you have to wear a cup and eye protection before powering them up.

Clips would be great at your convenience of course!
What cab do you like to use with it?
Great that you find it versatile. It looks badass. Looks loud.
