In the end HB won over P-90 in Neck Position

Hey everybody!

I had a GFS Dream 90 in my MIM and though it had a pretty good tone I found after a year of it being in my Tele that it didn't make sense having a noiseless bridge pickup and a single coil neck pickup that produces hum and the middle position was a bit brighter than desired. I also missed the warmth in the high end that the humbucker had and it fuller tone and I've been playing all day after installing it. I did like the look of the p-90 but IMO the humbucker looks as cool if not cooler.

I like the middle position with full humbucker and tele bridge.

Agreed. It's a very rich tone, deep warmth mixed with bright sparkle. I think I'll route out the neck of the black Tele and make it a dual P-90 Tele!

A man after my own heart.......you reverse mount your control plate.

While you'll get no argument from me on how great a neck HB is, I will say that I don't think the Dream 90 was the best representation of a P-90. Despite the '90' in the name, it's really more like a Strat single. The Mean 90 is GFS' more accurate version.

I take it you also reverse yours? I did it to both of them, I've always preferred having the volume and tone pots closer and I find it's still easy enough to switch pickups on the fly.

True. I've tried Mean 90s in a BC Rich and they were pretty rocking, and had I known over a year ago I would have opted for the Mean instead. I think the Dream90 is like a super-fat-somewhat-crunchy strat pickup, and while it sounds decent it didn't mix well in the middle with the bridge pup.

+1. Mean 90's get much higher marks here than Dream 90's.

So what humbucker did you put in it?

Yeh, I reverse mount my control plate. I like the vol pot where I can get to it in a hurry. I adjust it more often than I switch pups.

Just a Duncan Designed HB102(n) that I got off a forum bro a couple years back.

I like to utilize the volume and tone more often during songs and for the most part only switch pickups between songs. Also I find if the control plate sits the normal way I tend to sometimes unintentionally switch pickups while strumming.
