(In your opinion) What's the best mic for...

Recording an open back 1x12 combo amp with a sound I'm producing that is very midrange-y - primarily. It also has a treble response and there's bass of course, but not subwoofy (of course).

I'm basically trying to capture what I hear live and my Audix i5 mic, as great as it is, has a bass area about it which, as I explained, is not what my tone is about.

If any of you recording guys out there know what I'm "talkin' 'bout", I'd like to hear your reponses. :)

That is an open back for you...the midrange is always more pronounced than closed back.

Is the bass too much? Go with a 57, it is a little less hi-fi than the i5 (in the lows and highs)

If you are getting too much in the mids, you can try a mic that is generally designed for kick or bass. They have a natural mid scoop which may even out what you hear in the open air and what gets recorded.

Those are good starters, but placement will make up for the rest of it.
