Incoming NAD!

I just ordered a used DSL40C off Reverb for $500, which is a really good deal considering it has a Creamback in it. I do realize it's way too early to be asking, but if the Creamback can't do what I want it to, what are some other speaker types to look at? The Eminence Wizard intrigues me, as does the WGS Veteran 30. I do like 65% metal/high gain and 35% clean and light crunch stuff. I'm really excited!

Re: Incoming NAD!

Nice! I have the exact same amp! Sweetwater was doing a deal for a while where if you bought a DSL40c they would change the speaker to a creamback for you! I am really happy with mine! the tones spectacular!

Re: Incoming NAD!

Creambacks are fantastic for many styles of music. It will do metal and lower gain just fine.

Re: Incoming NAD!

Is it a 65 or 75? My creamback 75 in a bogner cab (paired with a V30) excelled at what you're looking for.

Re: Incoming NAD!

I've heard nothing but good about the Creamback loaded one on Sweetwater (I'm pretty sure this was one from Sweetwater originally too!). I can't wait to use my pickup booster on tubes instead of a modeler. If the Creamback isn't to my liking I'll look into a V30 type. How's the Hellatone 60? It's cheaper than a brand new V30, and it's broken in too. I think I'll start looking at some pedals now. Probably a delay and some modulation, who knows. I just can't wait to have my first real amp!

Re: Incoming NAD!

More or less. I prefer the top end and tighter low end of the 75. It gets filled in nicely with a V30 (my go to 2x12). The 65 sounds like it has thicker mids and warmer (to my ears). There's plenty of comparison demos on YouTube, so you can judge for yourself. From what I've read tho, the 65 is a good fit in your amp.

Re: Incoming NAD!

If you want a WGS Vet hit me with a PM as I have one on hand I plan to sell. Be aware the Vet is a very thick and dark speaker though so needs to go in a bright amp. I absolutely LOVE the Retro 30 from WGS myself like them a LOT better than the V-30's the Heritage and a creamback for a Marshall crunch tone.
Vet 30 WGS vs Vintage 30

Same guy WGS Vet 30 vs Retro 30. I own both speakers but prefer how the retro sits in a full band mix live better myself.

Re: Incoming NAD!

Like the WGS ET's a lot also have an ET 90 in my Zinky combo and a ET 10 in my Booge Subway combo.
Here is a demo with a set of the ET 65's in a 2/12 cab GREAT tones here!

Re: Incoming NAD!

V30 Is a fantastic speaker, all of my orange cabs have them, they sound fantastic

The V30 is the Duncan JB of the speaker world. In the right rig magic but in he wrong one really BAD! Have gotten great tones with a V-30 but also had nasty issues in the wrong amp.

I know what u mean, I have never had problems with my Orange's, but have heard horror stories of them as replacement speakers in other amps. I have run my DSL through the cabs and it sounded good, but actually changing the speaker to a v30 might make a different effect.

It's a good alternative then, the DSL is a relatively bright amp. I'll be sure to pay my impressions on a thread when it's here! Should be here by the end of the day Tuesday
