I've had my Music Man Y2D for close to half a year ago and while it's easily the best playing guitar I've ever owned, I don't like the Steve Morse humbuckers in it. Normally I would get some awesome Duncans, but my guitar is not routed to accept the standard Duncan baseplate, rather the Dimarzio baseplate like all Music Man guitars. And because of the color of the guitar, I really wanted double cream humbuckers, which meant that unless I wanted some imported (and expensive) pickups, I had to go Dimarzio.
So I picked up a used 36th anniversary for the neck and I just purchased a Transition for the bridge. I would buy a new middle pickup but it's not like a standard single coil in cream - it's actually wound on a half humbucker and constructed like half a humbucker. So the purple pickup had to stay, I got a bobbin topper for it so it doesn't stick out like a sore purple thumb.
I've got the 36th sitting on my desk and I'm just waiting on the Transition and the YJM speed pots I ordered to get this started. I should have it finished early next week so I can use it for the band practices and jam sessions I have in the next fortnight. In the meantime, enjoy this demo video I found of the Transition, it made me pretty excited to get this pickup. It sounds pretty damn organic for a ceramic pickup, and I always have some A5's I can try if it seems to sterile in person.
