As I recall, the 80's artists are hybrids with a SS channel switching preamp and a 30 watt output tube power amp. They actually sounded not too bad though. The combo usually had a V30.

Yup..SS preamp. Tube power section. They sound pretty dang good as I recall. I nearly bought one back in the day but ended up with a 50w all tube combo. I personally think this is a better mousetrap than tube pre/SS power amp technology.
The mods he mentions apparently are pretty common, and what most people "in the know" about these amps do.
With the cosmetic issues it has and the shipping charge, I wouldn't pay more than his opening bid tho. About $400 max is what I'd pay.
