$%*#ing Fuses!!!

OK guys what is most likely a cause of blowing fuses after playing for a while a faulty pre-amp tube or a faulty power tube? BALLS!!! I was all set up to start recording and I blew out my main fuse and the only backup I had. I am not real happy right now :damnit:

Re: $%*#ing Fuses!!!

I would think it would be the outlet. Is it an amp older amp expecting a smaller load that it was designed for back in the day?

I've never heard of that before.

Re: $%*#ing Fuses!!!

No it is my Triple XXX, pissed off because with out fuses I can't even troubleshoot it.

I gave up for tonight I'll go the hardware store in the AM and grab a bunch of fuses and figure it out.

Re: $%*#ing Fuses!!!

Fuses blow for a reason. I would change 1-- see if it blows. If it does, there are problems with the amp, more than likely a power tube or worse--- transformer shorting other stuff. If you don't know what you're doing leave it for a tech. There is a lot of potentially dangerous stuff going on inde your amp. BE CAREFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: $%*#ing Fuses!!!

Sounds like a power supply problem? I was planing on going up to N.Y. music this afternoon. If Richtie's there I'll see if I can pick his brains (He hates when I do that to him :saeek: ) LOL

Ah I was there yesterday picking his brain about something else. If it's internal it is warranty but I just changed a whole slew of tubes (both power and pre) in it so I am sure it is related. Just the timing sucks - the wife and kids are gone for the week and I was looking to get a bunch of stuff recorded with it unobstucted by family life, oh well. I'll use the Orange or the digital but I am bumming.

Re: $%*#ing Fuses!!!

It's usually an output tube...as the guys have already suggested. Do not use a higher value fuse or do anything like that. You'll fry your grid load resistors on the output tube socket. They might already be fried...but maybe not. Open up the chassis and take a look before installing new output tubes because if the resistors on the tube socket have a problem you'll ruin your new output tubes. Good luck! Lew

Re: $%*#ing Fuses!!!

I figured output but since I wasn't sure it was best to ask. I can pull the chassis in a snap so I take a look, good idea. Yeah no fuse tricks, it's the right one or none, learned that lesson many moons ago.

Thanks guys.

Re: $%*#ing Fuses!!!

OK as best as I can tell the bias grid probably wasn't up to the task. I decided not to mess with it for several reasons but I have found that quite a few XXX's have had this problem when going over to EL34's. Not a good thing to hear - I'll be bringing it in for service to a warranty center and deal with it from there.

I'll provide an update I am sure.
