Initial Pics of my 2006 '59 Custom Shop VOS

Ok, I couldn't wait any longer since John Boles from Guitarsale.com opened my box and took a few quick pics of my guitar, played her and weighed her before he left for the Greensboro Jam this morning. Extra special thanks to Dave Carpenter, John Boles and the folks at Gibson for making this happen!

Here are the details of the order:
1. Brock Burst Finish from page 75 of BOTB
2. Quilt Top
3. 6100 frets - Plek'd
4. MJ's PAFs, which rock from what the store tells me.
5. Heavily Rolled Neck
6. Custom Neck Profile

As an FYI, she weighs 8.3lbs! Let me know your thoughts! :feedback:

That is 1 nice looking guitar. Brockburst is starting to be my favorite LP finish. Enjoy it!!

First Thought: It looks like a Les Paul :D

Second Thought: the switch tip is missing.

Third Thought: WTF do VOS and BOTB mean?

Fourth Thought: fretwire looks a bit small to be 6100, but could be the lighting

Fifth and Final Thought: Nice axe, please post first person pics and a review when she arrives :)

VOS stands for Vinate Original Spec. This is Gibsons newest line and i have heard that it is going to replace the "historic" line

agreed..I'm not much on brocks or quilt but I like that one! :bigthumb:

I definitely will. She has MJ's Custom Wound PAFs and the guys at the shop says they sound like a DREAM!

Looks pretty sweet, Lee-I'm glad you're closer to what you want. I know you've been on one of the (arguably) most fanatical tone quests this board has known. I think she'll do it for you!

The only thing I don't like about it is that it's a Gibson :)

The reason the tip is missing is that it is shipped in the little accessory bag. Nice git-fiddle ya got there brother. Mine is the last of the Historics (2005) i posted a pic when i first got it, but i had glare issues.....flash photography...sheesh. Mine has the very detailed fine flame which goes in two directions. It almost looks like the big hairy eyeball under the tailpiece. The flame on the lower bout points that way and the rest points toward the neck. Maybe I'll call it washed cherry Jupiter burst :22: Reminds me a bit of the pics that I have seen of Paul Kossof's 59. Pictures to follow soon of it with my new tweed monster:bigthumb:

That's a superior specimen of guitar! The only thing running through my mind this month is the fact that my 'end of year balloon tax payment' could buy me a guitar exactly like it. Uncle Sam can go to hell. I'd actually a kill an IRS agent if it meant I could place an order with Gibson for a guitar just like it.

Thats a beautiful guitar brother...between that, the MJ wound pickups and a Blockhead I'd say you have some KILLER tone comming your way!

Means the sides of the fretboard ar not flat, but curved "inwards" at the top, for a worn in feel....
