Interesting Marshall Site, Check it out

Lots of youse have probably seen this site, but it's new to me. I found it whilst researching Marshalls. If you click to "Home" you'll get to some other stuff as well.

But, I'm still confused. The JCM800 line is just plain confusing.

He has some great info therer. What confuses you about the JCM800 line?

There's the single channel master volumes (2203, 2204) and their respective combos. There's the Split Channel models (2205, 2210) and their respective combos. There's also some other combos in the JCM800 series.

Hey Erik, Yeah, I just stumbled upon that site m'self.

In confusing, perhaps I mean that I pretty much know nothing LOL.

But seriously, if you read enough threads on the Marshall Forum (which looks like a great forum BTW), every model sucks, and every model is killer. Some say the 800's were best from 81 to 84. Others say diodes mean nothing and the later 2205's sound best. Still others say that the 2205 sounds thin, or is a poor man's Jubilee, and then others go on to say that the Jubilee is perfection, while others say that it's hype. I suppose the problem for me is that I do not have access to any of these amps, so in order to buy one I'm doing ebay and surfing, and well, sheesh, it's a struggle. To this point I'm leaning to a 2205 because I'd like two channels and an effects loop, but I'm also thinking about a Jubilee or Slash model, except that they're $$$ and also the aspect of having to share the tone controls between two channels puts me off a bit, and the users manual looked sorta complicated.

Sorta how this forum probably looks to someone new to pickups I suppose

I know what you mean. I used to surf over at that forum but found it to be too dang wishy washy and the stuff you laid out is exactly why I don't go there anymore.

When it comes to Marshalls, I'm all ears. Let me play 'em all. I'll listen to the words of several forum members here than over there any day of the week when it comes to these amps. Start hitting the stores in the area, small shops, pawn shops. Anywhere and everywhere that may have or has a Marshall. You'll find one that speaks to you.

Everyone has their own opinions on what makes great guitar and amp tone. Taking anyone's "advice" over the intarweb can be dangerous- as "the Marshall sound" isn't the same from every amp to every amp. My opinion of the perfect Marshall sound has changed a lot in the past 15 years or so.

Someone once told me regarding the JMP vs. JCM amps...

"'C' is for crap- 'P' is for perfect."

It fits for me- but it's not a philosophy to live by.
