Interesting Test: Differences in speakers in a single cabinet

I finally got my Mesa 4x12 in... When they say oversized, they mean it. This thing is HUGE!

Whenever I record a cabinet, I always take speaker tests to see which is my favorite. All the speakers sound different, but usually, it's easy to tell which one is the best.

On this, I'm leaning towards the 57 on the top right.

Each mic was placed about an inch away from the grill, aimed on-axis at the center of the dustcap.

Do you mean different possition arrangments with the same speakers in the cabinet? There are two of each speaker kind?

Re: Interesting Test: Differences in speakers in a single cabinet

how much does the difference remain after all of them are broken in?

I kinda like the bottom ones.. more beef and less fizz.

I'm really going to have to go between the top right and bottom right... Might end up blending 'em. The differences are so subtle when you start trying to find an actual position!

Here's the top right from that same day... I've since layered the 2 channels of my 5150 together and gotten it sounding better, but this is still the best tone I think I've gotten:

Right now, I'm diggin i5TL and 57BR. Granted, I'm just listening with my headphones right now. I'll give the clips a better listen tomorrow when I can use my monitors.
