Interesting thing I found

Re: Interesting thing I found

How does this thing work? (and DOES it work?) Is it just another ground connection? What does it hook to??

Anybody know?

I suppose not. If you did, we would all have these on our strats already.

I think John Suhr's been selling that system as a back plate for a few years. One minor complication is that it won't work if you have RW/RP pickups.

I was talking to Bill Lawrence about that system several months ago, and I don't really understand how it works. But it's not a dummy coil system. more of a low imp antenna that goes between the pickups and the ground, and I really can't explain the concept.

$325 Retail. Ouch!!!!

Re: Interesting thing I found

Actually, I believe it is a dummy-coil of sorts. The difference being, it isn't wound "tight" like a single coil. Its wound around the edge of the plate like an old AM radio antenna. It picks up 60 cycle hum just like an RW/RP coil and is connected out-of-phase. (Like an RW/RP middle pup.) Thats why you don't want to use it with an RW/RP pup. It wouldn't cancel noise with that pup.

Right. I was thinking something similar before but I didn't thought about the out-of phase thing (that's the two wire connection for I guess) for the canceling. :P I think Artie's right.;)
