Interface Recommendations?

Hi, I'm really new to home recording, but just bought a Macbook and would like a good/cheap interface to use down the reheasal studio... and at home.

Does anybody have any decent recommendations?

Re: Interface Recommendations?

If you can get by with recording only two channels simultaneously the Tascam US-144MK II is very good/

Re: Interface Recommendations?

If you want cheap look at the Line 6 pod studio UX stuff, if you want better quality (higher bit depth and smaple rate, better converters and mic pres) then look at presonus, focusrite and some mackie stuff. Second hand the M-Audio stuff isn't too expensive.

I have a whole bunch of these:

They work well under all OSes, no driver troubles. Audio quality seems to be good, definitely up at the level of my higher end PCI card, although I admit to not having measured deliberately because I mostly use S/PDIF in these.

They also have substantial output and can drive full size low ohm headphones at decent volume.

Re: Interface Recommendations?

I'm really digging Focusrite's stuff right now, and the Scarlett 2i2 is a great interface for the money.

I have a Presonus Firestudio (8 input single rack space beast) right now, and although the pres are very good with lots of headroom, I have had far better results recording with Focusrite pres generally speaking. Plus the Focusrite hardware and software is very well designed, and the control layouts and routing are much more intuitive than anything else I've used.

Re: Interface Recommendations?

The presonus stuff is always really good.

My presonus Firewire interface crapped out after 13 months and the thing does not have any moving parts what so ever, HUGE disappointment. I now have a used Tascam US-144M USB interface that's had no issues for the past 15 months.
