internal or external sound card?

should i go for one of those usb/ firewire units, or a card that fits into the pci slot of my motherboard? got an asus mofo with built in sound, but need something more. im gonna be recording using probably at most 2 or 3 mics, and maybe a midi keyboard. my moboz has 1394a and usb 2 and 3 built in. also sata-e, if that means anything. o and i have pci and pci-e. i dont have moniters, so ill be using headphones, and ill also need to be able to plug into a pa system somehow.

external boxes are really great and really versatile. M-Audio has always been good to me, I have a mobil-pre and now have a Fast track Ultra 8. most any external box will have a headphone output and line outputs in stereo. some even have dedicated line outputs for each input channel. plugging in a PA shouldnt be an issue, just depends on the board you're going to hook it up to.

im definitely leaning toward externals. do they work with asio?
