Introducing my rack gear

I have been assembling this gear for the last couple of months, and finally I've got something that I'm very happy with.
The heart of my gear is the Rocktron Patchmate Loop 8. This midi looper is in charge of switching the pedals/preamps I'm gonna use. So each pedal & preamp is connected to its respective loop and all pedals are placed in a rack shelf.
Let me explain you how is the signal path. First the guitar is connected to the active input of Rocktron Patchmate. I use the active input (or buffer) because I've got some high-end loss running all those long cables from Patchmate to the pedals. Then the guitar signal is splitted into 2. One signal goes to the pedals and the other one goes to the TC Polytune which is always on (a nice feature btw). The pedals and preamps are connected in series, which are as follow:

loop 1) Compressor: T-Rex Comp Nova
loop 2) OD/DS: TC Nova Drive (midi controlled)
loop 3) OD/Fuzz: Way Huge Pork Loin
loop 4) Preamp 1: Engl Tube Preamp E530
loop 5) Preamp 2: Engl Thunder 50 Drive E322 (preamp section)
loop 6) Chorus/Flanger: T-Rex Twister
loop 7) Delay: T-Rex Replica
loop 8) Reverb: T-Rex Tonebug Reverb

Then the signal goes to the FX Loop Return (set to wet) of the Engl Thunder amp. From here the signal is sent to the 1x12" open-back cab and 1x12" closed-back cab connected in series.
When I dig a sound, I save the pedals/preamp combination in a preset. Then I recall the presets using the Midi Foot Controller Ground Control (the old controller).... sweet.... :14:
What would be cool is to have a midi amp switcher ... yeah, but I don't 'really' need it.

That sounds pretty sweet. I have to admit that all of the rack stuff and midi switching is a bit over my head, but it all sure looks cool. The most important thing is finding what works for you and loving your tone. Sounds like you are there!

Re: Introducing my rack gear

Great rack gear man. I really dig what you did with your pedals. I am sure it sounds great.

Btw, how about a comparison review of Engl Tube Preamp E530 and Engl Thunder 50 Drive E322 (preamp section), both through Thunder power amp?

Engl E530 and Engl Thunder are different beast. The Thunder is more a vintage amp with warm undertones and high-end sparkle. Max the gain and you can touch the boundaries of metal. I setup the amp in the limit of clean/crunch so it works better with my overdrive pedals.
I don't like very much the cleans of the E530, but it works ok with the 'pork loin'. I use most of the time just the lead channel where I get my brutal sounds (when it's needed). However the E530 MUST be connected to a power amp to shine. Connected to the fx loop of the Thunder I can get an insane gain with mega low end... kinda the Engl Fireball.

Re: Introducing my rack gear

That big logo on that ENGL makes it look like a 1x6" practice amp

I about died when I saw the guitars next to it

Re: Introducing my rack gear

That looks great!

How difficult is it to setup the Patchmate? I ask because I'm thinking of using 1 to allow me to control all the features of my Spalwn Quick Rod aswell as the G-Major I'll probably be using for FX all from the same small MIDI footswitch, but I'm not massively up on my MIDI devices :D

Re: Introducing my rack gear

I like the Ibanez S202?x (cant tell exact model from pic). I have the 2021x and its a great guitar. Does yours have the thick and delicious neck too?

Setting up the Patchmate is extremely easy. Just press the loop you want then save it... done. The loops of the patchmate can be configured as momentary switch operation as well so you can use it to change channels in your amp. This must be setup using a midi foot controller which require a bit more of programming time... but nothing that an average guitarist cannot do :cool2:

Ibanez Prestige S2120X with DiMarzio D-Sonic(b), AirNorton(n), and L.R. Baggs piezos.
The neck is thick, fast and delicious. Piezos are amazing. Light weight and strong body. Beautiful guitar :32:
I bought it used on a trip to Japan. It is one of my favorite guitars.

thanks for taking the time to appreciate the guitar. rock on mate.

Nice! Same one I have (although I messed up the numbers). Got mine $400 NEW and loved it ever since. I put a full shred set in mine, perfect for the thick mahogany tone it shoots out. Those guitars are pretty rare but great instruments.

indeed it's pretty rare being an amazing instrument. good to know you know about good stuff :naughty:

edit: I would like to hear you opinion about the full shred because I installed the DiMarzio Tone Zone and it didn't work so well.
