Invader/Charvel

Jomo's Nimions
So I decided to hell with keeping the Model 6 all stock. I took out the Jackson J-50BC (cool pickup with the active mid-boost, hella-lame without it), and dropped my Invader in. The 5 second "make sure it works" test turned into a 20 minute riff-fest! The Invader with the mid-boost is hellacious! Pure molten power! Sustain out the arse, and the easiest pick sqeals ever. I've been on a huge Godflesh/Jesu kick lately, and this is great for it. It's tuned down to B at the moment, and couldn't be sounding more sinister :angryfire

Re: Invader/Charvel

Works good with Floyd tremolo? I've been leaning away from the Dimebucker toward the invader for my Ibanez, in the bridge.

Re: Invader/Charvel

I definitely like the Invader more than the Dime, at least for the sounds I'm currently going after. I should also point out that my Charvel is a maple neck-thru, rosewood board, poplar wings, Jackson JT-6 locking trem, strung 12,15,24w,34,44,54 and tuned (low to high) B,F#,B,E,G#,C#.

As far as the Invader vs. Dimebucker thing goes, if you want a more top-heavy sound, go with the Dime. If you want a thicker, more bottomy tone, Invader.

Re: Invader/Charvel

The next person to proclaim I´m nuts using a Dimebucker with the midboost will be referred to this post :laugh2:

The only people who'd say that are the one's who also claim that high output pickups are overkill when used in conjunction with high gain amps :D

BTW, I bet the Dime sounds better with a mid-booster. I know the Invader, J-50BC and Distortion do ;)

I´ve said it before, I´ll say it again: There´s no such thing as too much gain, only players that can´t control it :headbang:

Now if only I could figure out how to wire an EMG Afterburner to a Livewire :laugh2:

Re: Invader/Charvel

ROFL!!!!

anybody got a mid boost for sale?

a good mid boost that is .. cheap?

Re: Invader/Charvel

You can get the EMG SPC control (sounds nearly identical to the Jackson) for pretty cheap used. I think they're around $50 or so new.

Re: Invader/Charvel

it does, does it now.. hmmm .. i think we're onto something here.

then it doesnt sound as crappy.. must've been the HZ's then LOL

Re: Invader/Charvel

I had an Epiphone Goth V loaded with the Distortion set and the SPC knob (instead of a tone control) and it was a flamethrower! After having it dimed for awhile, the Distortion bridge sounded really weak without it :laugh2:

Re: Invader/Charvel

Congrats on being in the Charvel mob! And modding it! Even cooler :D
That midboost is pretty cool indeed, and I really like the J50BC. Is it really different without the midboost? I've got a FullShred replacing it Tuesday :D

Re: Invader/Charvel

I put a set of old non-logoed Invaders in a Jackson Kelly XLR I used to own (poplar body)... only had it tuned to E or Eb with 10 gauge strings and thought it sounded awesome, a lot of low mids and bass punch!! Didn't sound muddy at all, even in the neck position.

You may have to ask someone that tunes up that high :D:D:D
Hey Tim, what's your tuning de jour? I'd been gravitating back up towards standard (well... drop D anyway), but now that I put the Charvel back to B, I think that's all blown to hell :D

Yeah, I know it's off topic, but I started this thread, so who gives a sh1t if I hijack it?? :)

Re: Invader/Charvel

what the hell do you play in B? besides crowbar. the lowest i go these days is Db, which i really like. sabbath!!! i usually have most of my guitars in E though.....just seems....right.

You mean tuning de last 5 years, right? E/Dropped D and D/ Dropped C ;)

Re: Invader/Charvel

I love dropped C tuning :32:
I learnt Swim by InFlames two days ago so I had to go to Cstandard, I had never been that low. It's METAL!!!!
Zerb and JB from Hell, is it me or the J50BC is actually a REALLY Good metal pickup? With a tube amp it probably won't develop that much gain yeah. Too bad I hear it sounds **** without the midbost :yell: I wanted to put it on the model 1a.

:smack:
