Invader Mag Swap

Recently I discovered the amazingness of the Alnico 8 magnet after installing one in my Custom, & it got me thinking, is it possible to swap the 3 ceramic mags in the Invader for 3 Alnico 8's?

Re: Invader Mag Swap

Sure but no idea why you would do this.... First is the availability of the 2 side mags in A8 is slim to none. Ive never seen them offered in A8 but its not impossible. Further the invader is already a relatively dark pickup and the A8 will clip off more of what little highs it already has, can you say "mud ball"? The added low mid roar is kinda like adding a shot of everclear to a long island ice tea. In your head your saying "Hell yeah!" but after 15 minutes you know why people dont do it.

If you want to try a hotter pup but more workable try a JB with an A8 i think you will find it more agreeable and easier to swap.

Re: Invader Mag Swap

With spacer mags it would border on ridiculous (loud). This thing likes a 500K with no tone knob. I've also done A8 Invader/Custom hybrids with the caps, there's a couple of those around I made for other people.

It's a unique sound, def not for everyone.

Right now I'm happy with the Invader just with swapped caps for the screws out of a Super D but I might try a single A8 in it.

Re: Invader Mag Swap

It would be hard to find Alnico 8 magnets that narrow because unlike ceramic, the poles of an Alnico magnet need to be a certain distance apart to avoid it demagnetizing itself. Those spacer-size mags are just too narrow.
