Invader magnet swap?

Anyone tried this? Is it possible with the invader's magnet configuration? I was thinking of trying an alnico 5 if possible.

Re: Invader magnet swap?

i was wondering that myself....also about bringing the power of it down. i'd love the low end of the invader with maybe SLIGHTLY less output.

Re: Invader magnet swap?

If you put an A5 in an invader you would basically have a JB.

I have a 1/4inch A5 magnet I'm considering for my invader but I'm undecided as of yet; I sort of like ceramics for their ability to cut through anything.

Re: Invader magnet swap?

It has 3 ceramic magnets in it, two skinny ones on the outside. Just remove one or both skinnies and replace it/them with spacers.

Re: Invader magnet swap?

Interesting might have to try this. What about putting an alnico 5 in the normal spot but leaving the 2 skinny ceramics...

Re: Invader magnet swap?

I have a N and B invader set and I am planning to do the magnet swap(s) if I don't love the sound. The mags should be 1/4" thick inlike most humbuckers though...

i've been begging for a response on this in the God damn forum custom pickup poll...its really pissing me off, bc no one will give me an answer. i've been thinking about this stuff lately and wondering if you could put a ceramic, a2, and a5 in the same pickup and nobody will ****in respond. i feel like a kid again when the grown ups are talking and im trying to tell them the cat is on fire and my sisters having a baby!!

Re: Invader magnet swap?

lol, I'm pretty sure you can, I know the gibson Iommi uses a half ceramic half A2 magnet both running the length of the coils. Hard part would be getting alnico magnets cut down to size. But I think sliding an alnico into the middle slot would work just fine. I dont know if the invader magnets are all glued together but i think I am going to give this a shot next time I get home from college.

Re: Invader magnet swap?

I'm just digging this thread up because I tried fitting my A5 1/4" mags in my invader set. What surprised me is the Invader has 2 plastic spacers, not 3 magnets -only 1 big one in the middle! My A5's fit but have ALOT less pull, so I want to put 2 on the edges as well. I just need to grind the baseplate down a bit to do it. I do think it's wiser to try the ceramics mags fist and hear how they sound before jumping to conclusions! However, the guitar they set is meant for is bright and I need bluesy tones out of it, so maybe the A5 will be the way to go (and with appropriate switching and pots too).

Re: Invader magnet swap?

Natman, Zhang is correct, sounds like you were dealing with an Invader neck model with the 1 magnet.

Re: Invader magnet swap?

Nope, definitely both -I have the set! They're Shop Floor Customs with glow-in-the-dark bobbins. I only had 1 mag in each with 2 plastic spacers. No biggie, I don't think it will change a whole heck of alot. If I feel like it I have some skinny ceramic mags I could stuff in there. The 500T is a cadidate for organ donation since it has similar construction. Or, like I mentioned I may very well try the alnico 5.

that's like asking for a ferrari with increased trunk space so you can get more groceries in it. the thing that makes the invader so unique is the output. it's a monster in the truest sense but can cover so much ground if you learn its nuances. leave it to us forum guys to want to mess with a good thing...

I don't think it's all THAT hot.

And the signature thing for the invader is the wall-of-sound thickness it has.
