Invader or JB

I have a squier bullet special with one duncan designed buckshot. I want to get it replaced for one of these humbuckers. I play a Blink 182/Green Day style of riffs and powerchords so which would be more suitable. I am leaning more towards the Invader at the moment. I know its a squier but i love it. My girlfriend bought it for me and its my favorite thing. Please dont flame because of my music tastes and plaese help.

i think JB cuz its a really versitile pup or thats what i hear and the invader is i always thought made for more of a metal tone. Only reason i think this is because mark morton from log uses it and he has a nice metal tone. But anyways i would go with a JB most versitile correct me if im wrong.

Blink182 used an invader for everything apart from the last album.

Greenday used a JB for everything apart form the last album. (i think)

I use an invader and my bandmate uses a JB, both very cool pickups but also VERY different sounding. The invader has huge amounts of meaty bass, a really big sound, its as thick as they come, i love it, but many others find it overkill, in certain woods like a thick mahogany body its not suited, but in a squire it should be fine. The JB is probably more versatile, and also cleans up quite nicely, its no-where near as thick as the invader, but has similar output.

Both pickups are great and would be well suited to your music, i'd get the one which you think is more liek the sound you want, and use the 21 day exchange to get the other one if you are not 100% satisfied.

BTW, there is VERY little flaming on this forum, and there are a fair few people who do appreciate blink and greenday here, and also some that have produced great guitars from squiers, so i wouldnt worry about asking questions.

Those pickups are really on differing ends of the tone scale from each other.

Like what has been said, to get that signature sound you would use the Invader. But, if you have a very dark amp, you may not like the Invader.

A good way to approach a pickup choice is to consider the wood in the guitar, and the amp you are using. It all comes down to balance. If you have a dark guitar and a dark amp, a dark pickup is likely to produce mud. For that situation you would want to inject something a little brighter into the signal chain.

Great post Forbes. The BTW is a good diddy. Flaming just gets people mad, and isn't helpful. Sometimes on forums people tease one another a bit, but some people take that to heart. It is difficult to tell what is going on behind the written word.

I had a bullet special with an Invader & JB (at different times). Both were quite cool. However, I'm gonna further complicate things and recommend you get a Custom. After going through all the Duncan mid to high output pickups, it's without a doubt my favorite.

I have a JB in my pacifica , similiar to squier H-S-S config. a tad bright becos the body is alder (use the tone knob to address this). it has good mids and hi IMHO.

dont ask me how or why i know this, i just do- what you hear on albums is an LP with P90's, the guy from blink 182 only used strats with invaders live

Id get the JB, its a bit more versatile, nicer cleans, awesome for chunky rhythms and searing leads, the invader i find is a bit.. too much.

This board is very cool and refreshing because everyone is just trying to help out fellow musicians and give their own tips, ideas etc. I don't see folks bagging on people's music tastes, or weapons of choice. We've all seen that BS on other boards at one time or another.

Having alimited Duncan reference point myself, there are very good points regarding your decision. What works in the studio won't always get what you want live for sure. Most folks use completely different things in the studio vs live.

At any rate, a JB will definately give you versatility over the Invader.
A JB would certainly be more friendly for recording.
