Invader side mags vs. cheap import single coil mags

So, given the difficulty of sourcing small mags to put on the side of a humbucker (ala Invader), I was wondering if there was much difference from what cheap import strat pickups use. You know, the ones with steel slug poles and ceramic mags underneath. Those should be pretty cheap, and a set of 3 would yield 6 mags. Thoughts?

I have thought of the same thing, but cutting them to the right size is difficult because they are brittle. There are some magnet supply houses that will grind magnets to your dimensions.

I was hoping they'd be close enough in size to fit, at least for an F spaced bucker. I thought so after seeing a pic of the underside of a Squier pickup, anyway.

Are you sure cheap pups have two mags? I'm just asking because I have half-a-dozen or so laying around here and they all have one mag only.

If you have a Dremel tool and cutoff wheels you could cut them down to size. However they are very brittle.

Not meaning to go off topic . . . but as long as you have that avatar, I probably won't see a word you say. :naughty:

Re: Invader side mags vs. cheap import single coil mags

i've wondered this too.
although personally i've not seen a SC pickup with 2 ceramic mags either.

^ and those things are bloody huge...

Sorry if I go OOT here but I always wondering where do you got such magnificent avatar like that?
I don't think those girls are pronstars :D

I think I remember both ibanez single coils and the neck pickup of my squier 51 have/had a dual mag setup. I remember wondering why they built it like a p90, but I never checked polarity for repulsion.

Re: Invader side mags vs. cheap import single coil mags

I know some Squiers are like the P90 this way, and assumed others might be as well, but it does look like most are just one mag.

Looks like the Ibanez Infinity singles they use on their cheaper axes have dual mags. I got a couple from the bay. Just in case anyone else was interested.
