Invader time...

mustaine-who?

I see on several boards that the SD Invader is being compared to the BKP Warpig. I always heard that the Invader was a muddy mess and didn't solo well.

Am I wrong? Are there mods that make it better?

Re: Invader time...

Depends on what it's in, I guess. The one in my Warrior MG does sound a bit choked for high-gain-induced shredding (where the amp's gain levels are so high that you can basically hammer-on an entire solo). It does have a bit more beef in the butt for rhythms, and you (I) have to pick more of the notes of the solo, but that makes it as articulate as a JB, but with more output.

Re: Invader time...

Avenged Sevenfold. JB and its big brother Invader are well demonstrated in their music.
There's a hint of muddiness in their rhythm track, even Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance use Bogners and Marshalls which are mid-high heavy and tight low-end amps.
But OMG can Synyster make it sings in his hand,so I guess the singing character of JB still apparent in Invader. Hence why I agree that Invader has the same winding with its popular bro JB,only the magnets and pole pieces that set the difference.
I wanna try Invader too,but every Schecter Synyster models always sold out in my place so I haven't got any chance to see how this beast actually sounds to my ears. :scratchch
YMMV

The Invader is soooooooo underrated. In the right guitar, it's awesome. Neck & bridge equally. Here's mine...

Mahogany set neck w/maple quilt top. Thin-ish body. Basically a Hamer copy, but this has a 25.5" scale w/24 frets. It's a fantastic hard rock/metal setup. I bought the set because of Syn's overall tone, and couldn't be happier.

1 meg tone pot. Not as drastic a change as a vol pot, but it does the trick.

Re: Invader time...

Doubt you'd need any mods if no tone pot is connected. Should have enough bite as is.

Re: Invader time...

available from dimarzio superDs! heh

srsly, look for fusion1's thread about this; he posted comparison clips and went so far as to post linkage to a fastener supplier.

Re: Invader time...

saw a friend of a friends band recently. He had an invader set . he was setting up and played by himself to check his gear and the tone was awesome . I was blown away .

but I have never heard a PU so lost in the mix during the set . it had no bite or cut to it at all

Re: Invader time...

i love the invader bridge pickup, its bright but still dark. with enough volume and gain it cuts through well, not as defined as a distortion but more punch.

I tried a neck invader once and i absolutely hated it though, it was the mushiest muddiest garbage. Maybe it was the 7 string I had it in or the wind is different for a 7 string version, but it was truely awful. should have stuck to a fullshred neck like the set i had in my les paul.

Re: Invader time...

Have an invader in the bridge for about 8 years now ... just ordered fullshred. Invader is monster, remember it was invader not EMG that was in James Hetfield's V on MOP. But its a bit too much for classic hard rock/metal. The leads are are a bit ice picky, saturated, but noisy on pick responsivness .... I guess Synyster has something else about his wiring or signal channel or maybe just his hands t.... A lot of guys here believe that running it in parallel is the way to go. But I want liquid, balanced, focused with unforgiving pick dynmics leads, and tight and bright note seperation on rythms, and thus Fullshred. Eventually I want to try custom job of half FS, Half Invader, with FS part being closer to the bridge, so i have some of that Invaders brutality. Oh it cleans up pretty well, but its cleans are very bland, nothing to write home about ...

Actually MoP was EMG's it was Ride the Lightning that was done with an Invader.

Re: Invader time...

word on the street is that the hetfield pickup was an overwound double screw coil JB.
and that MJ may have had something to do with it.
: private:

justice sounds more like EMGs to me; but who can tell through one of those ADAs?

Are you talking about in the white flying v copy? You can clearly see in photos of it from the time that it has the large cap screws of an invader and not just double rows of screw poles. Maybe the guts were played with but ive always heard it was just an Invader.

I have an old guitar world interview with him that where he says that he started using EMG's on the Ride the lightning tour.
