looking too swap out my jb for a invader or distortion. love the jb, just looking to try something different. i play mostly metal and more rhythm then lead. i have a 59 in the neck so need something that will sound good with that or am i wasting my money and stick with the jb.

Re: invader vs distortion

invader is *the* rhythm pickup for metal, recommended!!!!! The lower mid emphasis makes the pickup sound MASSIVE, even with heavily scooped mids and moderate distortion.

EDIT: the distortion is more like jb with more edgy sound and more output.

Re: invader vs distortion

Metal rhythm, both will be good and will great with the 59. Both will be better for rhythm than the JB. The JB is a GREAT lead pickup but, not great for rhythm. The invader is big, thick and ballsy. The Distortion will be a bit more versatile. Its a hard call.

What amp/rig do you have and what guitar? This will be the deciding factor on which pickup.

Re: invader vs distortion

Two different, although cool, sounds - give us a tonal hint. I will say I do tend to think rhythm more when i think of invader.

Yup. The Distortion can go rhythm or lead where the JB is lead and the Invader is far more rhythm. In most configurations anyway.

Re: invader vs distortion

I have a Peavey 212 combo and the guitar is a jackson soloist alder body maple neck and ebony fretboard. If I go with the invader is the 59 neck any good for lead?

Re: invader vs distortion

The Invader is just incredibly fat and warm. The difference between Invader and DD is bigger than e.g. between DD and 500T.

The Invader will be useless for many things. The DD should be useful for most things metal.

Re: invader vs distortion

You know - with the floyd/Alder/ebony, I might actually go Custom, instead of DD or Invader...

Re: invader vs distortion

before you buy anything, try the jb with a ceramic magnet (try an a8 mag too).

Re: invader vs distortion

I might follow Ace's lead on this one (big surprise, huh?).

I got to go against the grain of you and Ace. I am not a huge fan of a Custom in a longer scale axe. I HATED it in my Jackson nut, loved it in other applications. For what the dude wants, his amp, and his axe, I think an Invader is perfect. The 59 will be just fine in the neck with it.

Re: invader vs distortion

I dunno mang, I tried the Invader in a Washburn Mercury with similar specs to his Jackson (Wilkinson instead of a Floyd) and I just felt like too much detail was missing. that is, of course, through my rig, in my hands. YMMV.
