Ironwood body/top?

Might have access to some ironwood planks and had the idea of possibly using them for building a body project. Anyone have any experience playing a guitar with this wood?

I wonder what wood would work well for the back of the body since the planks are kind of thin.

ive played a chapman stick made out of iron wood...it was pretty, but i am pretty bad at playing a Stick. When someone else played it, it sounded great.

The entire thing was ironwood? How was the tone/attack? Seems like it'd be rather percussive if it was on something designed for tapping.

yeah, the whole thing- in fact you can usually spot a few on ebay. to my ears, it had a very strong attack. very much like maple.

That's what I would expect (though I've never played one). It's a very hard, dense wood, so I would almost think it would be kind of percussive sounding.

I'd go with a mellow, squishy (tone, not to the touch) wood for the back. If it's a lot like maple then mahogany would be an obvious choice.

Have you ever tried to do woodworking with ironwood? Very hard to work with, and very dense. There's a reason its called ironwood. Would be interesting to hear the tone you get from it though.
