Re: Is a Vox ad60 and 212 cab to loud?
The power attenuator on the AD50 is actually alot more flexible the the AD60. As you know the AD50 has a dial that smoothly turns up and down like a volume knob for power attenuation. The AD-60 is stepped from 1 watt, to 15 watts, to 30 watts, to 60 watts. You have to select one setting. The AD-50 will actually allow you to go below 1 watt or to 5 watts or 10 watts or anywhere on the dial. From my experience with my AD-60 combo cranked on the one watt setting (the lowest possible) is loud enough for the neighbors to notice in an apartment setting.
The AD-60 is a killer amp and has advantages over the AD-50, even though it's attenuator isn't as flexible (IMO). I think the reverb is way better on the AD60 and it has more effects, delays, ect. And you can save a grip load of pre-sets. If you can play as loud as a stereo blasting, you can crank it on the one watt setting. Actually the more I think about it, the AD-60 either sounds good at TV volume on higher gain settings (one watt with master below 12 o'clock) or cranked, IMO it doesn't sound good at inbetween volume. One 12" speaker is fine in my combo at home.
