Listen to the tone on the live CD. Pretty much the same. I read somewhere that he was using a SS Randall. He used a Plexi on "Planet Caravan" but there he was looking for a big fat round clean sound.

Ive played randalls that give a pretty good CFH tone. The song also never sounds right unless you tune 1/4 step down.

SS Randalls with a ton of EQ's and junk.

Yeh you'll need a sonic maximiser and a few parametric EQ's to get that tight Dime sound.

I would bet it's one of those deals where if you played through his set up it would sound too scooped and unpleasant to your ears, but somehow it works on tape/CD. It does sound very tight and sharp, but at the same time it's just not "organic" enough for me.

I guess the only way to find out would be to nab an old Randall, a Bill-n-Becky L-500L p/up and give it a test drive.

Also: you should try Danelectro's FAB metal pedal, if you haven't already. Only like $16. It really brought back the days of thrash for me. It's a seriously killer pedal for metal. Very tight and Pantera-y. Don't knock it til ya try it!
