Is position #1 neck or bridge?

Artie

Peaveyologist
Is having the 5-way all the way forward, (neck position), considered position #1, or is #1 all the way back, (the Bridge)?

Thanks.

Re: Is position #1 neck or bridge?

Only at YAs house. Most literature I have seen refers to the #1 position being the neck pickup.

Ok then . . . either way, it more or less answers my question. I've seen it both ways.
So, I take it, its not written in stone. ;)

I also learned it that way, but I´vfe seen both ;)

Logically, I've always equated "forward" with #1.

Edit: Just noticed - Angus is from "down under". No wonder he has it backwards. :laugh2:

I'm with you in this thinking Artie, but apparently we're the minority.....

Someone posted a thread a while back that when listing pick-ups in their guitars, which one is listed first & a GREAT MAJORITY chose the bridge first, as in JB/'59.

yeah, i normally put the bridge first as well, and refer to the #1 position as the bridge pup

Re: Is position #1 neck or bridge?

Hmmm . . . this sounds like a good time for a poll. :laugh2:

Re: Is position #1 neck or bridge?

Everyone I talk with has position #1 being the bridge and 5 the neck. But I guess you can wire it anyway you like. :)

hahaha, just because we australians have the low E on the bottom string instead of the top doesnt mean we do the same thing with pickup positions :32:

Seriously though i suppose it just depends on the person, i didnt mean to make it such a concrete statement before but thats just what i've always gone with and seen lots of other go with as well. Good example being when people list what pickup combos they are putting in guitars like a JB/Jazz for instance, the first being the bridge...etc etc

Re: Is position #1 neck or bridge?

Really depends Artie who you ask, generally 1 is considered the bridge, but it not engraved in stone. It's just a matter of perspective really, I tend to think of the bridge as 1. Always good to make a clarification when talking to someone, as in ... bridge being the number 1 position ...

Re: Is position #1 neck or bridge?

I don't think I've ever played a guitar where downward (toward either the floor or toward the bridge) wasn't the bridge position pickup.

Absolutely - "down" is always the bridge, "up" is always the neck, but which of those two do you call #1? ;)

There in is also the problem Artie, if it ever was One way or the other, there it's shown either way so many times on schematic referrences that you really have to just pick one, and let everyone else know which one you are ttalking about. That Meagswitch thing that I did, *they* list the bridge as being the #1 position. I've heard Fenders referred to as either way, and some imports as #5 for the bridge.
