Is putting a mike through a guitar amp safe?

Got a friend who is running a retirement party. He called me up and asked to borrow a mike (he's not a musician). He was gonna put it through his stereo, but I don't have any xlr or 1/r inch to RCA adapters. It's only going to be a small thing in a restaurant, and I was thinking of just giving him one of my small combos like my 65 Univox U-45B to use just so people can say something. No singing or screaming or nothing like that. Is there a chance the amp could be damaged, because I love this amp and use it on about 80% of my recordings. My other amps are either too big or small for this.

I run a mic through a guitar amp at a wedding one and it was fine. When I was 16 my band did not have a PA so we used a guitar amp for it with no problems.

will not damage anything.

Be careful of feedback as there is more of a tendency using an open back cab.

Thanks for the input guys. I feel better now. Was gonna loan him my Vox AD60VTX but who knows how that would work, lol. I wanna keep it simple for him.

FWIW, the second channel on some tweed amps is labeled "mic".
It's probably damped about -6 db, like other second channels, so if you have the option, you might choose a lower gain input.

I wouldn't recommend doing it, but it's possible with some amps. I've done it before, but that was back in highschool when I didn't really know what I was doing.

dont do it! I used to do that and I fried a speaker - I attribute the dead speaker in my 2x12 amp to doing that.

Dewd, my dad used to gig with a SuperReverb and he used it for guitar AND vox.

If you're talking about people just speaking through it, there won't be a problem (for the amp).

Well, it's a dead issue now. He's already lugging his stereo, and doesn't want to haul aroung the amp too. I'm a bit relieved quite honestly. :laugh2:
