Is Randall's new amp trying to get their finger into the Matamp/Electric pie ?

88watt of all valve/tube with gain & Fuzz ?

The Name of the amp was inspired from a quote of Ozzy aparently.

Wonder how this amp will fair against a Hovercraft Falcon 90 ?

Cheezy front plate but I do love the specs on that thing!

The thing that's bothering me are the separate fuzz and gain knobs. On an Electric/Matamp the fuzz comes from allowing too much bottom end into the preamp and the output turning into this massive square wave onslaught that makes a Big Muff sound like a party trick. The lower you set the Depth control the fuzzier the sound. All tube fuzz.

But this amp has a depth control and a fuzz control, and the depth is towards the power amp and not at the beginning of the preamp. Makes me wonder if that fuzz knob is a traditional depth/FAC control? or if it's a built in transistor fuzz box?

The former would be awesome. The latter would be lame as f*ck.

I hear ya.
I would take black oil paint, a thin brush and go over the white, to make it a stealth-like, black on black. Only on the outside 'pin stripes', not the name n skull section.

The very short Premier Guitar video clip i saw, made you believe everything about the circuit is all valve/tube.

Only time will tell.

The video demo I saw was interesting. The sound without the fuzz is bright, tight and modern. However with the fuzz on the sound becomes bass heavy and loose. I would be interested in hearing the range of the fuzz circuit because the demo shows that it just obliterates both channels tone. There's not a lot of difference between the high gain channel with the fuzz on and the low gain channel with the fuzz on.

That's a big steaming pile of "Meh".

Still, active pickups and the guitars volume is probably glued to 10.

Finally... Someone who knows how to work a guitar volume...

Based on the commentary I'm thinking the fuzz is solid state.

I'll admit that I'd like to check it out, and it will be nice to see a made-for-doom head that isn't either 40 years old and you're lucky if you find it in a pawnshop or new and made of unobtanioum.

SS Fuzz ? . . . :banghead:

With that thought in mind . . . what do you think of the Hovercraft Falcon 90 then ?

Or you could just removve the skull... Both would be cool.

I hear ya, although while the former would be killer, the latter I wouldn't classify as "lame as ****" if it's a ggod sounding circuit... Just way less cool than the first option. Just because they're going for the matamp vibe doesn't mean they have to copy the sound and circuit... Imho, there are other ways of achieving cool doom tones... Tons of guys are usin muffs over othe amps and sound killer, it's just not "that" particular sound you know?

Alrjough not as cool, remember that good ss fuzz pedals do exist... Is I remember correctly...;)

Honestly, I haven't been paying attention to them. When they came out I already had an Electric. I couldn't find the Falcon 90 on their website but they had this little 20w head and a video that had the general sound correct (at 20w it's obviously not going to be massive like a 120), and looking at the pictures the bigger amps have massive transformers.

I'm pretty impressed with the prices too. At a little over $600 for the 20w and $1500-1800 for the big amps their prices look pretty fair.

My personal feeling is that if the fuzz is solid state then I'd rather use a stomp box because then I can change it to whatever I want. With a tube circuit or the FAC/Depth control you get something that's totally unique and can't be found in a pedal (well, I haven't found it anyway).

Still, I want to hear what these amps sound like cranked. We're obviously missing a lot of the low end response in these recordings and there's no speaker drive, so it's not really a fair representation of what it can do.
