Is the Alesis SR-16 a worthy drum machine?

I need a good drum machine to go with my Roland DiscLab. I want it to be pretty realistic and professional sounding.

The Alesis SR-16 is a very good drum machine. I've been using mine for the past 16 years with no problems or complaints. There are a huge number of parameters that you can modify, including drum tuning, type of drum, stereo spread, etc. You can also write and record your own patterns, it can be used as a sequencer, it's got MIDI capability, the list goes on and on. I got mine because I was tired of playing the parts myself and/or finding a drummer to play them for me.

Only going from sound ...YES! Same with any of the Alesis drum machines.

Take a look at BFD, which is perhaps the coolest computer plug-in you can buy. It contains loads of excellent sampled drum sounds and some pretty cool preset patterns.

I have a Zoom 234 that I'm very happy with but the SR16 is GREAT... and old standby.

Well, my drummer was listening to some demos that I had done and thought that I had played the drums myself. I think they're very real sounding. They're sampled drums, so they should be.

I'm not sure but they made two early units, and one was for more electronic sounds, and one was specialized for acoustic reproduction ... That one was dead on. The D4 super drums rack unit is great as well. The Roland (BOSS) units would be my next best choice.

No one has mention this yet. One cool feature of the SR-16 is it has
touch sencetive pads ! If you want to tap the beat out w/t your
fingers? The harder you hit the louder it gets, very Dynamic!
I loaned my SR-16 to my Bass player...HE WON'T GIVE IT BACK !!! :evil:
It's a great unit, you won't be dissapointed.

Yeah, I'm an Alesis whore, I've got a lot of their stuff ...They were one of the first ones to use the pressure sensitive buttons ...the Quad and Midiverb 4 both have scroll and page buttons that scroll faster the harder you press them ...with a little practice you can go from scrolling thru the patches slowly to jumping all the way to the end real quick ...very cool!
