For the high gain guitarists!
I have a somewhat weird observation:
1. Strat: i have wax potted single coils in the neck and middle, and a seymour duncan custom custom (also wax potted) in the bridge. I noticed at moderate levels, there isn't a problem with microphonics, but once I get really loud, I start to get microphonics from the bridge. Now, flip over to the neck single coil: sure the hum is there, but there are no microphonics.
2. Les Paul: I have a set of alnico 2 pro seymour duncans (wax potted). I repeat the same process above and strangely enough, the neck pickup is fine, but the bridge pickup seems like it's on the verge of blowing up.
I realize it's probably not a question of the bridge pickup being more microphonic, but rather, the position in which a pickup is placed in. Is the bridge POSITION more microphonic by nature?
Any comments?
