its not really like either. the seth and aps have much less mids than the cc, there are similaritys but there are plenty of differences besides output

I agree with Jeremy. I use the Seth Lover as the neck pickup and Custom Custom as the bridge pickup in my nicest Hamer, a Monoco Super Pro, but like Jeremy said, the CC has a differant voice than the Seth: Lots more mids and more midrange bark and growl. I've compared the CC to Tom Holmes HB's in my Les Paul, Burstbuckers in another Les Paul, Custom 5 in another Hamer and 59 Trembuckers in my Strats and there are days when the Custom Custom sounds the best of any of them! I can get great Jeff Beck "Truth" tones, Clapton with Cream tones and even very EVH like tones from the Custom Custom, tho it is a little stronger pickup than those guys actually used. It sounds killer at both low volumes and high rock volumes. The only complaint I've heard about the CC from other players is that the pronounced mids mask the treble frequencies a little...but all you need to do is move it close to the strings and it has plenty of zing and treble. It's one of my very favorite Duncan humbuckers, especialy in a semi hollowbody like my Monoco.

Of the Custom series, the only one I feel sounds like onf of the PAF models is the Custom SH-5. Some say the C5 sounds like a 59: I disagree personally, but the CC really just doesn't fit in that mold.

Re: Is the Custom Custom kind of like a higher powered APII Humbucker?

when i put the CC in my V, i found the mids to be really overpowering and the bass not tight and pronounced enough

the sweetest aspect of the CC for me was the highs - no other word but sweet :D

ditto Jeremy- i hear more mids from the CC...

The APH is, in my opinion, one of the most balanced humbuckers I've ever played. It has no discernible peaks or humps anywhere in it's range. The CC, on the other hand, is very pronounced in the low mids and has softer highs and lows than are typically associated with a high output pickup. Both are great, but I preffer the CC in the bridge of a thin sounding or bright guitar over an APH. This is because the CC will fill out the sound of that particular guitar more while the APH will more faithfully translate the voice of the guitar it's in to the amp.
