Is the name on the headstock all that matters?

I own guitars to play them, not render them as real estate.
I own 'em to play 'em, too but they also tend to come and go. Just because you don't expect to make a profit when you sell a guitar doesn't mean you shouldn't be concerned about losing too much.

Personally, I've been there and done that.

i agree, but i just get a little sentimental with my guitars...i can't let go of my gax70 eventhough its playability is questionable. It was my first guitar though, and i usually try to revive it with new pickups and resetups.

Ah, sentimentality. I can't argue with that one!

I hardly ever play my heavily modded :eek5: Aria but I couldn't bear to part with it. I got it in '82 for $400. Adding a Kahler and a pair of Duncans over the years cost me a lot more than that. It now sits, semi-retired, in the corner of my music room (far right above the Soldano). :)

I'd like to say no, but basically.....yes. Try as I might, I'm a name brand snob.

Re: Is the name on the headstock all that matters?

IMO, absoultely. I believe you get what you pay for, and only a Fender sounds like a Fender, only a Gibson sounds like a Gibson, and so on. You can get close with imitations and knock-offs, but I'll take the real deal thanks.

Re: Is the name on the headstock all that matters?

Actually, now I believe it is: Only Heritage sounds like (and is worthy of the name) a Gibson.

My Parker Nitefly does a mean strat imitation, BTW.

Re: Is the name on the headstock all that matters?

Well i mnly own a MIM strat, and i love it plays great. But personally as a preferece i would rather own a guitar that is stock and plays great rather than buying a cheaper guitar and modding the hell out of it. I am a firm believer of the idea that you get what you pair for, and with guitars that is no exception. Of course a modded korean or MIM guitar will play amazing, and perhaps even out play that gibson or PRS, but from playing other people guitars and comparing them to mine, i would gladly save up and buy a gibson over say an epiphone LP. Although recently it seems to me that these foreign guitars are getting better in terms of being stock. Look at the elitist line, and some of those MIM fenders are awesome too, but currently as it stands for me as a personal preference i would much rather have a nice guitar stock, and if that means it must be a gibson or something of that caliber then so be it. I think alot of the times the name on the head stock does corellate to the quality of the guitar, although this is not 100 % accurate at all times.

Re: Is the name on the headstock all that matters?

I'll play anything, as long as it sounds good and feels right in my hands.
