The tone chart has them both as "6-3-8" But the Custom 5 has a lot more windings, and the chart shows a lower resonant peak.

Can you hear a difference?
I would guess it's a bit less bright? There aren't many clips or videos out on the Custom 5. - I like what I've heard so far.

You are correct.
The A5 magnet will give some mid-scooping to the Custom just as it does to the 59. But with more windings (as in the Custom) you will usually get more mids, less highs, and more output. So, yes, it sounds a little darker than the 59. It's still a pretty bright and in-your-face pup.

GuitarDoc is bang on. The Custom 5 is a bright pickup and there are still lots of highs there. I think where you lose high end is in the upper frequencies that really chime.....which I hear in pickups like the '59 or the Screamin Demon. Also, don't let the mid scoop deter you; some people make it sound like it is the pickup equivalent of the "V" graphic eq scoop and it isn't. Put it in a Les Paul or SG with hearty mids and you'll get a big balanced sound that doesn't get congested!
