Is there a way to turn a headphone out into a line out?

I have an old amp with a headphone out but I need a line out to connect to my computer interface. The headphone out is too strong a signal even if I turn the volume down.

Worst case you could build a box with a resistor or pot in it to bring down the output.

What interface do you have and how high is the knob on the interface turned up?

Heres what you need:http://www.martin-doppelbauer.de/audio/fieldrecorder/pad/. Very simple to build. Changing the value of two resistors on the sides changes the amount of attenuation. Perfectly safe as long as you don't lower the value of that 680 ohm resistor.

I used similar desing for speaker out of an amp: Here's how the project went.

Crusty didn't quite approve :D. I still don't know why... It's definitely working.

Have you gone into the computers audio setting and fooled with/lowered with the line input setting? For that matter are you sure you're using the line input and not a mic input. I've never encountered the situation you describe and not been able to make it work.
