Is this a real Gibson humbucker?

Hi guys,

I found this ad and I thought that 45 buck for a Gibson pickup seems like a good deal. The seller doesn't say the model nor year or which guitar it was taken from. Any clues on what I'm looking at?

I contacted the seller and he has absolutely no idea, he says he bought it as a "gibson pickup" but has no original packaging and the pickup has no serial number nor logo. Is there a way to tell what this is? If I remove the cover will I be able to see any indicators?

He offered that I could test the pickup for two weeks and return it if I don't like it. Is it worth the trouble? What do you think?

My Gibson pickups have Gibson USA stamped on the back

That's what I though, I've been looking at some pics and most of them say Gibson and have a serial number. Probably the seller got ripped off and he doen't know about it.
Unless this is a rare or old model... Is there a way to tell?

Re: Is this a real Gibson humbucker?

It doesn't look like any thing I have ever pulled out of a Gibson. There is typically more branding or stickers. What model is this supposed to be? I am not feeling it. There are so many Gibson pickups used out there in the wild I would just move on.

Re: Is this a real Gibson humbucker?

I feel you Lew. But it is not like the pickup is a killer deal. You can find the same pickup in the same price range and be 100% sure it is an OEM Gibson. I don't think I paid over $50 for any of my Gibsons on the secondary market.

Re: Is this a real Gibson humbucker?

The OP says this one is five bucks less than $50.

It might be a 57 Classic.

Hard to tell without comparing it side by side with a known 57 Classic though.

I'm not familiar enough with them to say one way or the other.

But it does look like the 57 Classics in the Reverb listing I posted.

It appears to me as a 57 classic, like other forumites suggested. The sticker "patent applied for" is not present but it seems to be ripped off because of the black signs on the baseplate. It has the two conductor braided wiring like all the factory installed models. Can not see clearly if the cover is nickel or chrome. The springs do not appear like the ones used by gibson. But it seems genuine to me. Have you already asked for DCR?

57 classic for mine.

If its an old one, that is a stellar deal. A newer one, not so much. Tonally I'd put the recent 57's on a level with GFS......and value about the same.

As mentioned the springs are not original and in fact most likely too short for a long leg humbucker.

Thats a 'no deal' from me.

That is why I asked if the cover is chrome or nickel. Late 90s have chrome cover, newer ones have nickel cover (like aftermarker 57 classics). But there are some LP traditional pre 2014 with chrome hardware

Re: Is this a real Gibson humbucker?

Looks like a Burstbucker to me because of the hazy (not shiny) baseplate, and is just missing the QC stamp and the patent sticker has worn off.

If I am not wrong Gibson started to put QC stickers on pickups baseplates after 2006
