is this madness?

Hello guys,

I wanted to tell you my latest experiment... I 'm away from home for work, and I dont have all my tools and stuff, so I wanted to change strings on my backup guitar (Ibanez RG), got these EB cobalt (I really like them btw!) 0.9 set, and I just realized I dont have any tool at all to cut the strings.... so I tried this stuff.... removed the small metal blocks from the FL, and slip in straight the string with the ring end all together, making sure that the hole is facing the screw.... screwd everything back... and hmm .... no big deal! everything seems to be in order.... and I even think sustain is improved somehow....anyone ever tried this ? :)

Re: is this madness?

I would be bothered by the part of the string going over the saddle being wrapped up and not just a solid guitar string.

Re: is this madness?

It isn't madness, but it isn't a good idea. Clamping the strings like that will put A LOT of stress on the end wrap near the ball and your strings will be prone to breaking there. You should plan on properly clipping the strings when you can, and until then keep the bridge blocks handy so you can re-insert and clamp the strings after a break.

Yikes! I guess it works in a pinch. I can imagine you'd get some really bad saddle wear if you did this a lot. This is yet another reason that one should always carry a multitool.
