Is this Pearly Gates neck within spec?

Bought it new.
So it measures 7.04 as compared to the typical 7.3k ish on the site.
Not installed.
Single coil split are 3.52ish or so.

Good to go or no?

Resistance readings can vary with ambient temperature. So if you measure it now it will read different than if you let it sit in the sun for an hour. That's not much of a variance.

That's only 3% difference. You could easily see that from a handful of PG pups even at the same temp. But as idsnowdog said, temp makes a difference as well. That resistance reading is perfectly fine.

I figured it was probably good.
My other pickups, the 59 and JB, were pretty close to the typical spec.
I wonder what the cutoff is for Seymour Duncan?
How far off is too off?

If it averaged 6 or 8, in different temps, then I would think something was wrong- it might have been rewound or something. But I think you are good to go.

IMHO, by the time the signal has gone through a bunch of other components of various nominal values and various tolerances, as long as the EQ character of the pickup was right, and there was no obvious volume spike or drop, I’d be happy with that reading.

FWIW, all of my PG and PG+ pickups have read a little lower than advertised spec. They have all sounded fantastic, though.

My PGN is even a hair under 7.0k. The resistance varies with thickness of the wire. Since the wire is drawn thru casted shapers, the wires tend to become bigger as the shapers wear out.
