Is this pickup just really high output or is it microphonic?

Hi SD forum I just got my Jackson Pro Series Mick Thomson Soloist on tuesday that I have been dying to get. Love it so far and the pickups sound good (SD Mick Thomson AHB-3's) and today I was fortunate to crank my amp only to then have the day kind of become full of questions.

I started playing some muted E power chords and such and when I let go all I hear is

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Even after muting the strings with my hand and such. I tried adjust volume and gain and bringing them both low and it still happens.

I know Blackouts have a rep for being notoriously hot and all. Is this normal or is my pickup defective?

What other pickups are you comparing it to? Duncan Blackouts are really hot.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Was this noise coming from the strings or are you referring to something else? Also just so you know, the AHB-3 comes with a reduced power mode. Are there any push/pull pots or other switches that could trigger this mode?

Re: Is this pickup just really high output or is it microphonic?

I am not comparing this to any pickup. My other pickups don't make that screeching noise when I let go of it on any given volume. I am concerned that there is something wrong with the pickup

Re: Is this pickup just really high output or is it microphonic?

Not the strings. It makes the noise even when I mute the strings. I have to roll the volume off for it to go away. It happens after I am done playing something like a chord progression.

Are you using a tube amp? Is it possible a tube is microphonic?

Re: Is this pickup just really high output or is it microphonic?

Also, does this squeal at lower volumes? How much gain are you using? How loud are you playing?

Re: Is this pickup just really high output or is it microphonic?

I am using a tube amp. I am gonna try my other guitars to see if the same problem is going on. If not then it isn't a tube.

Re: Is this pickup just really high output or is it microphonic?

Not using a ton of gain. Using Lead 1 on my DSL40c and volume is low. When I go to 1.5 that is when it starts doing the squeals. I am gonna try some of my other guitars to rule out the possibility of a tube issue

Re: Is this pickup just really high output or is it microphonic?

Hmm, at that volume, the squealing is probably not coming from the guitar...do you have another amp you can try?
