Is this squier pro tone a good deal (25 min till auction ends)

Re: Is this squier pro tone a good deal (25 min till auction ends)

It looks like it is over. Those were supposed to be pretty good guitars. I played a ProTone Strat a long time ago, and I was impressed with the feel and the sound of it. I would compare it to lower-end LTD guitars but with a little different style.

Edit: It was you who won. Congratualtions on that one.

thanks is LTD a brand or a short for something in the strat/fender world?

LTD is the Korea-made line of ESP guitars. Since the late '90s, they, along with Schecter have been a big hit with professional guitarists and other serious players.

its like a high end LTD as far as I am concerned...

YES!

I just got a protone and it was definantly a great deal! You get a crapload of guitar for the money despite the need for a pup replacement.

whats up indeed with that e string...hmm and I already paid...

If you look, the G B and E strings are off center from the fret marker. It could just be that the neck has slipped in the pocket. Hopefully it's not that the bridge was misplaced.

The strings look pretty parallel to the edge of the fretboard so it probably just has a really poorly cut nut. Replace the nut and rock out! \m/

boy I really hope so...

Ok so without opening another thread...for nice rockin roll with perhaps just a touch (a pinch) more power then normal (whatever that is) strat pickups...and importantly has the strat quack...which duncans should I be looking at.

starting with the bridge as that may be all I use or need to replace...but including the others...fire away.

Hmm how are the pickups compared to the mim and the mia? these pro tones are alnico so perhaps closer to mia? But why do you say they need pup replacement? Are they good but just not as good as duncans? Or are they a weak point?

Well it is a fine guitar, it has more clarity then my mim (rosewood neck on that). got all those ugly stickers off and she is a peach. I did my first neck adjustment (applause please) and lowered the saddles and she plays great (unlike her owner). the only strange thing was the saddle with the high e string...the screws (whatever they are called) were actually shorter then the screws in the other 5 saddles, and if I was to lower then any more they would not have even supported the e string (if it needed support). anyway I stole 2 screws from my old squier (non protone) and adjusted all the saddles (again applause) and it is just right for me now. The funny thing is the bridge and saddles are old looking and rusty while the neck has 0 fret wear and looks and feels totally new. Anyhoo I would totally recommend this guitar for yall wanting a strat that is better then mim for a decent price...as a final note, I performed a test for tone...My wifes parents are over from macedonia (they don't speak any english) and I had them both close their eyes while I played both the mim (which is darn nice imop) and the new protone. then I had my wife ask which sounded better guitar 1 or 2. they both picked #2 which was the protone...as they say in macedonian....rockski e rollski...:).
