Is this tone possible to get with a Strat?

The strat has a QP in it so its in the range of a P90 with output. Maybe with some gain and a noise gate? :) Go ahead, laugh if you want to.

Heaviest tones I ever got out of a "single replacement" in a strat was the lil 59 bridge....I was getting Deftones tones circa around the fur for days as well as a pretty good sepultura type tone as well.....

Re: Is this tone possible to get with a Strat?

There's an old pedal from..uh..(opens new tab and googles) Seymour Duncan!! that slaps pickup frequencies around a bit and makes a single sound like a humbuggie. Having said that, rolling off your tone and pushing a boost pedal into your amp may help. EQ will do it for sure.

Re: Is this tone possible to get with a Strat?

What gets me close enough to a humbucker is a tone control on the bridge pickup set to about 7 and a mid heavy overdrive. Its not nearly "that" level of gain, though. The noise level associated with that much gain might make the QP unusable.

I can pump a lot of gain on the bridge pickup with a Suhr SSC without a lot of added noise, that's not cost effective but a stacked humbucker should be just as quiet.

Re: Is this tone possible to get with a Strat?

I'd say to really just turn up the gain and treble in general. Not my cup of tea but whatever.

I got that kinda tone out of all my Strats. High powered humbucker in the bridge, and plenty of gain and some EQ shaping. Easy.

Re: Is this tone possible to get with a Strat?

I got that tone with a good amount of gain, a noise gate, and an eq pedal. Worked like a charm. ;)

Re: Is this tone possible to get with a Strat?

Yeah. Darken it with your tone control, use a noise gate to curb the 60hz and run into a flagship head with enough gain to saturate.

Re: Is this tone possible to get with a Strat?

First, a QP is the most humbucker-like single coil out there, so you're already ahead of the game in that regard.

Second, TGWIF is right about gain + EQ being the most important factor in a tone like that.

Re: Is this tone possible to get with a Strat?

IN Andrews defence, i think the use of inverted commas for "tone" made Christian's post seem a little condescending. There is no right or wrong when it comes to sounds. Only personal preference.
