Hey guys, first of all im trying to get as close to the jcm 800 but with a combo. I would like it to have less wattage than 50 like the blue, but what can u do. i was just wondering is this amp my best bet for the jcm 800 tone in a combo, because i can pick up a new one for a deal from a friend.

THANKS

I think that the jcm 800 is the tone most people ask about how to get for cheaper, do u also find this to be true?

I think it sounds pretty close. It has a bit of its own sound as well, so its not really a clone. I actually find it a little smoother. Its a very versatile amp. The clean channel can get nice and chimey. The drive channel can get a sort of plexi/voxish sound depending on how you set it. With the boost on, it gets a thundering low end crunch thats smooth, without any harshness.

Try these settings: Drive 7, Volume 6.5, Bass Mid Treble all on 5. Clean volume 4, Treble 7 Bass 7 Mids 6, Master 3 (or higher) Reverb 4
This sounds pretty good on my strat and Les Paul on all pickups and all channels, especially with the boost on and isn't really that loud. I retubed the preamp with JJ's, so you may have to tweak things with the stock tubes. The JJ's sound better and smoother, but the stock ones sound pretty good.

I'd say, if you can get a good deal on it, go for it.

ya i herd that the tubes need to be changed right when u buy one, but why dose everyone put jj tubes in, are they the cheapest?

It's all an opinion, but I think they're one of the best production tubes and at a reasonable price. Excellent tubes.

They put in cheaper tubes for a cost cutting purpose. Most amp makers do. The stock tubes are still pretty good otherwise no one would buy it new from the shop. It will only make a minor difference by changing them. It'll still have the exact same tone, but maybe just a little smoother at higher gain settings. If you get it and like the tone, you might not even need to bother. I didn't notice that big of a difference with the power tubes. I still have the stock ones in mine, which are actually pretty good sounding.
