Isolation headphones

Hi All. Has anyone ever used any isolation headphones for band practice? I always use ear plugs (foam/like the Heros) for practice/gigs and they seem to be fine. We just got a new drummer who's really loud and I'm thinking about headphones in practice to reduce the db's. No speakers in the headphones required.

From my research, it seems that ear plugs will give you around 32 db's while headphones are around 25-28. I'm guessing there's nothing that will be as good as ear plugs? I'm also thinking about a combo of ear plugs / headphones. Overkill? Perhaps ... but I lost most of my hearing in my left ear and I need to do what I can to prevent further loss.

Thanks.

PS: I'm not sure if this is guitar or amp forum. I'm guessing either???

Re: Isolation headphones

i would probably put it in the amp forum but it is a good question so if its supposed to be moved, someone will move it.

but i think it really depends on the headphones/plugs for db resistance. maybe a good way to go would be to use cruddy plugs with bad db reduction with good phones so you can get like 40-45 dbs resistance insted of 55-60db

In addition to the in-ear plugs, I would go with the biggest, bright orange over-the-ear hearing protectors you can find. They might give your drummer the message.

That's what I was thinking too. Not putting in my ear plugs too far and using the headphones. Great idea.
