It happened again... NAD!

I didn't expect this to happen but if there's anyone who needs the "Keith" amp it's me. I present, the Fender Custom '57 Twin RI! (Yes I know Keith plays high power 1959 Twins, but this is as close as I'm ever going to come).

Local sale, great price, and excellent condition. About 10 years old from what I can tell (has the metal "tube cage" but predates the rubber "switch condoms"). Eminence made "Weber designed" alnico speakers.

What can I say? It's got THE tone. Sounds fantastic!

I already have a 5F6-A Bassman and I was worried the Twin would sound too similar to justify buying it. They are not the same. I mean, they're both Tweeds but they each sound like their own thing.

I already removed the tube cage.

thats a lotta amp man! they sound great clean and kinda even better cranked up

Re: It happened again... NAD!

I have one of those. Much much more than a Keef amp. Clapper amp too. And can sound Marshall-y when set up certain ways. Nice score!

Re: It happened again... NAD!

I was in a local shop recently, and the owner wouldn't even give a potential seller a price for a Twin, saying there would be no way he could sell it. I hope you got a good deal on a great amp because people don't know what they're missing.

Re: It happened again... NAD!

That's a beautiful amp. How loud does it have to get before it starts giving up the goods?

Re: It happened again... NAD!

Here's the thing, I swapped 3 of the preamp tubes from 12ax7 to 12ay7 but the side effect is that it doesn't dirty up until its turned basically to 10 or 11. And even then it's not full out driving.

But yeah, like any non-master volume amp its loud before it goes into breakup.

Re: It happened again... NAD!

nos 12ay7? you doing that since its period correct or you want less breakup?

Wow, that would be loud. What dirt pedal are you using?

Lovepedal Les Lius.

My Bassman is even louder. I don't care what anyone says, you simply cannot push any of these sized amps into overdrive and have the volume be usable in any practical situation. Even large gigs I find the sound techs get pissy when your stage volume is too loud. Cause if I'm loud then the bass player has to turn up to match, and then the singer can't hear his monitors, etc. What they are is great clean platforms for pedals.

Re: It happened again... NAD!

its loud man, i hear ya. years ago i was playing an outdoor gig, i had recently finished building an esquire and was using a bassman ltd. long story short, channels jumped both volumes at 10 or so, guitar straight in. sounded glorious. after the show i talked to the foh guy and he said it sounded amazing but had to bring the rest of the band up a ton just to try and match my stage volume.

Yeah, I get it. I don't play very loud onstage, and the best tone I've ever heard was a '71 Pro Reverb cranked up (40 watts or so). Everyone hated me, but man, did it sound great. I've never heard that sound at a lower volume, though, because if I could find it, I'd use it.
