It was 20 years ago today -- my first 'real' band, URSHURAK (clip inside)

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
The summer of 1994 saw me in my first signed band, Urshurak. In many ways, my current project, As Follows, is a direct connection back to this style of prog rock.

Anyway, we were a 4 piece; my brother sang and I played guitar and synths as well as wrote all of the music and handled production duties (some things NEVER change lol).

Some of you may recognize the first few minutes of the song it was exorcised of the rest of the tune and concept and made into a stand-alone song when the band morphed into Twilight Odyssey.

Anyway, aside from the few cringe-worthy moments, the piece holds up pretty well.

Guitar on this track was my '79 hardtail Strat w original Joe Bardens into a Mk1 Rivera Knucklehead (still have the cab!!).

Sounds really good man..pretty heavy too. Very Nwobhm meets 70's prog..great sounding guitars :) Yeah, I think I remember that opening guitar harmony part from the Twilight Odyssey CD..

I listen to my old stuff from that many years ago, well I was into heavy rock then but did not own a guitar, I was playing dizzy gillespie in my high school jazz band. good to reminise, I woulda never thought stuff would get this much better :)

Thanks for listening! I am pretty sure the shortened version of Endless Days is track 4 on the CD? Something like that lol. That song was tracked in a very simple setup. An SM58 on the guitar cab, 4 mics on the drums, and bass was DI. Used the vocal booth for acoustic guitar, too.

Just in terms of technology, what you can achieve now is staggering. This song as tracked using 2 ADAT machines, which used VHS tapes!
