Itchy soldering iron - replacement Pups for Parker Nitefly Mojo

Told myself I wasn't going back inside this guitar, after upgrading to a Graphtech Acoustiphonic/Hexpander, including routing a big chunk out the back. Thing is, it's such a beautiful guitar to play, and the versatility is amazing.

BUT, I've never really liked the JB/Jazz combo in the guitar - too bright/snappy especially when split. I'd like to warm things up a bit tonally, while easing off on the gain from the pickups (my rig does most of the work there). For those who don't know the Nitefly Mojo, it's 25.5 scale length, bolt-on, Mahogany body, floating trem, stainless steel frets.

In terms of my taste in tones, I have 59s in my Les Paul, P-rails in my ES335 (used almost exclusively in P90 mode), and various lower-gain HB's elsewhere. My music falls in the 90s Britpop/Americana/Indie/Alternative world.

Thoughts?

Custom Custom + Alnico Pro 2 will get you there... maybe even warm things too much.

^ this is exactly what I'd recommend, and it is my favorite combo in most guitars, especially bright ones. It should mix really well with the piezo, too.

Custom Custom Bridge, Alnico Pro 2 Neck?

Hmmmm... Been listening to some clips - I think it's going to be a toss-up between a Custom Custom in the bridge, and a 59/Custom Hybrid - I have that one in another tele and always enjoy it. Pretty close ball park, though! Thanks all ~Vince

What you also have to consider when doing coil splits is sometimes it can result in a thin bright sounding single coil. This can happen with humbuckers that read less DCR than say a 12K Ohms or greater humbucker. Typically the screw coil is hotter than the slug coil especially in an asymmetrical or unbalanced coil humbucker. Idealistically if you have two coils that are both 4K Ohms and the humbucker measures 8K Ohms you will experience the thin bright single coil sound BUT, pup winders can do a "splat" tap as David Plummer of Zhangliqun Pickups does where he utilizes the full split coil plus part of the other coil to provide a more realistic representation of an actual single coil pup.

Funny thing the human brain, isn't it?! This thread really got my subconscious noodling (thank you all) - and I think I'm going to take a different approach. My plan is to take the PRails and Triple Shots out of my ES335 and put them in the Parker, then get a pair of Seths into the 335. Couple of outstanding considerations:

1) I'll have to trade the bridge PRail for a Trembucker version, but that's no biggie.
2) I have to check whether the Triple Shots will fit the Parker OK - they should but the Bridge is close to the PUp.

For way less money and work you could try magnet swaps first. I have a Fly Mojo (Jazz & JB). I put a UOA5 mag in the Jazz and an A8 in the JB. Both pickups warmed up and "rounded out" nicely. Both split even better than before the swaps too.
Other good mag swaps for those would be an A2 in the Jazz, making it the same pickup as the Alnico 2 Pro, and an A4 or A2 in the JB.
It would cost $4-$5 per pickup & you don't have even have to unsolder the pickups.

I have a RCUOA5 in a JB and an A4 in a 59n. I would be willing to bet that an A4 would work in a JazzN too.

Interesting. Do you have any sound clips of the Fly with that config - particularly without distortion/delay?

Yes! For a more open bridge pickup, the 59/Custom Hybrid is a great choice, too.

I've heard it said somewhere that Seymour's go well with Parker guitars and DiMarzio do not. Just food for thought.

Mine is the Nitefly Mojo, which ships with JB/Jazz pairing. Going to try the magnet swap suggested up-thread.

Sorry, don't have clips or a way to make them right now.
For the price and time involved it is worth trying the magnet swaps. Search this forum for other suggested magnet swaps for the Jazz & JB.
