Re: I've lost my mind...

/me lol's at post gain setting.

Yea it's 120watts and in a bedroom, I was drowning out the people's TV next door so that's why I stoped to take pictures. Also why it's turned way down.

And no, it certantly wasn't a steal by any means, but I did talk them down $300 from their sale price. :fingersx:

I thought that plexi halfstack was the loudest amp I've ever heard... Well now I don't think that was the loudest amp I've ever heard anymore hahahaha.

Suprisingly I like the clean channel better than my classic 50's clean channel. I dono, it's just got some extra mojo to it or something.

Heh the clean channel still has enough gain to eat most amps alive though. The lead channel is almost over the top.

It took a suprisingly long time to figure out how to shape the tone properly on it.(If anything looks funny about the EQ that's why, I has just unpacked it.) Really has ALOT of tones in it.

Also, for more police friendly reasons, you can pull the 2 outside powertubes to cut the wattage right?

You're nuts! :laugh2:

Nice score! It looks intimidating for bedroom use, though. ;)

Yes, but as you probably already know, you're not going to notice much difference. 60 watts is still 60 watts.

Oh, when you pull powertubes, you cut your posted Ohmage in half. So if you're running the amp into the 8 ohm cab input now, it's going to be 4 ohms when you pull the tubes.

To be more clear, if the switch/knob/whatever on the back of the head says "8 Ohms," it's really going to be running at 4 when you pull the outside tubes.

It's a 16ohm cab so would it be safe running at 8ohm? Considering if I pulled the tubes it would be 8ohm...

8ohm into 16 is usually OK - that's not usually considered a dangerous impedence mismatch (though some amp builders will tell you that no mismatch is good) and some people actually prefer the slight difference in sound that results from running an 8 ohm signal into a 16 ohm cab.

Here is an article from Musician's Hotline where Jeff Bober of Budda talks about that kind of impedence mismatch as well as a few other things.

:)

You know the little rhyme for mixing liquor and beer? I recently heard one for this stuff - it's stupid and cheesy, but it helps me remember.

In regards to amp --> cab impedence:

Low to high, your amp is fine.

High to low, your amp will blow.

Re: I've lost my mind...

I get it, if the cab is asking for to much power from the amp, the amp will try to provide the power and melt down.

Re: I've lost my mind...

exactly, put much more concisely and clearly than I've been able to so far. :)

Re: I've lost my mind...

I just set the head to 8ohm to try it out... It runs alot quieter(as in hum), the tubes don't put off as much heat, and it sounds way better. Why does peavey say it's a 16ohm cab? It must be an 8ohm cab.

Re: I've lost my mind...

Don't mismatch the impedence, or you'll stress the tubes and transformer.
Just set it to 16ohms, and use it the way it is. And who cares about neighbors......they can move. LOL

Actually, go jam with some people and use that wattage!!!

No it wasn't dropping the volume, it was making the amp it's self run quieter. As in less hum/background noise.

How do I know for sure what ohm my cab is? Other than just checking a website. I have a multimeter. As it's been stated, it's not great but it's not as harmful to run the amp at less ohm than the cab. That's why I'm concerned.

Re: I've lost my mind...

If it's like the 5150 cab, it's 16 ohms. It should say on the back little model number plate.

Everybody's getting on board now! Gr8Scott got the XXX halfstack, you got the 6505+, I got the 5150, Peavey halfstacks for everybody! :D Congrats bro, it's fun as hell ain't it?;) Wait till you can crank it! :beerchug: Now get out there and jam!
