J-Bass Pickup Questions

I have a series of questions regarding J-Bass pickups:
  1. Is it advisable to mix stack and non-stack pickups, and does this upset the balance of the two?
  2. When the tech specs state that a stack J pickup can be wired in "series or parallel, humbucking or nonhumbucking", are these attribute relative to the two sets of magnets within each pickup, or do these refer to the interplay between the pickups in the pair?
  3. Do you think a Hot Stack in the neck position and a Quarter Pound in the bridge spot would sound nice and offer good flexibility?
Thanks for your responses!

Re: J-Bass Pickup Questions

1.) Since the idea of the stack is to reduce noise it makes sense to have them in both positions on a jazz bass or one pickup would be hum cancelling and one would not.

2.) I think the answer here could be either. I'm not sure though how changing the wiring within the individual pickup coils would affect hum cancelling though. I have never tried that. More likely you would prarllel/series between the two pickups.

3.) Depends on what you are looking for in tone. This would work or could also be reversed. Based on answer #1 I would go either Hot Stack or QP in both positions. If you go single coil consider mixing a "Hot" neck and a "QP" bridge.
