Ive been checking out the Jackson DK 24 guitars at Guitar Center lately. The double humbucker model uses a Jazz in the neck and a Full Shred in the bridge. The SSH uses Alnico 2 Pro single coils in the neck and middle and a Full Shred in the bridge. What’s interesting is the HSH model. It uses an Alnico 2 Pro in the neck, an Alnico 2 single coil in the middle, and Full Shred in the bridge.
What’s specifically I nteresting is that the Alnico 2 Pro that’s in the neck of that model uses a double row of HEX screws instead of slugs and fillister screws. So if an Alnico 2 Pro neck is really a Jazz with an Alnico 2 magnet, and a Full Shred neck is a Jazz with double hex poles, then this A2Pro is really a Full Shred with an Alnico 2 instead of an Alnico 5, right? I never thought of having this variation. I know it’s probably meant to tonally balance with the A2 single in the middle. But this A2Pro has a really great sound. Almost a glassy single coil like attack but with a nice warmth. It works real well with the no load tone pot and becomes pretty versatile. I was wondering if anybody else has these conclusions. The Jazz always seems a touch too sterile, and the Full Shred neck a bit too bright for a neck pickup, but what’s essentially an A2 Full Shred is a more tame yet complex sound. Being able to take the tone control in and out of the circuit had me playing forever with different things. I wish they released this pickup exactly like this as standard.
