Jackson Without Locking Nut?

Title says it all. I've found that the extreme angle from the nut to the tuning pegs makes for really bad string binding and tuning issues on my Jackson PS-2. I'll turn the peg one full revolution and the pitch won't budge, then another nanometer, and the string's a full half-step up.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had any positive experiences with this lack of a locking nut on newer Jacksons, because those new 2019 Pro Soloist models are stunning, and I don't need anymore Floyd-ed guitars in my collection for my own sanity.

Thanks.

Re: Jackson Without Locking Nut?

My SL3 has an aftermarket OFR, and I usually play it without the locking nut hardware on. It stays in tune pretty well as long as I don’t go nuts on the trem.

And my SL2HT does very well with a TOM and a Gibson style nut, which was reset and dressed by a good shop shortly after I bought the guitar.

I had a PS-4 back in the day, don't remember any issues like you're describing. I was always whammying away, so I never had it unlocked, though.

Tighten the nut and knob screw on the tuner
