Jake E. Lee did it?

Do you?

Do you bend the neck to get that tremolo like vibe, I do. I don't do it hard but in the midst of a jam theres nothing like grabbing the horn of your guitar and bending back the headstock, be gentle now.

I don't do it on my Jackson, but I do on my Strat, really pulls out that 80's badass vibe. :)

So anybody else jiggle the headstock?

Re: Jake E. Lee did it?

love those little tidbits.... that's cool.

Re: Jake E. Lee did it?

I usually do it be leaving my left hand in the normal playing position, but using my right hand to grab the upper horn and push it toward my body. I like to do it anytime I strum a bunch of harmonics.....like at the 12th or 5th fret.

You don't need to use much pressure. I don't think it's too hard on the neck, since it's about the same as turning the truss rod a little.

Re: Jake E. Lee did it?

I've done it that way too, to be honest with you I would much rather tug the neck than use the tremolo arm, which I rarely use anyway.

Re: Jake E. Lee did it?

It is upsetting to see @-holes with no talent take your Gibson and flex it like a pretzel because they do not know a fourth chord, and Vai is their rock-god.

The only thing keeping me from punching them in side of the skull is that they might fall down...and ruin my guitar.

At that point, trust is broken...and it is immediate "Game Over".

If you need to bend a neck because you are used to a stupid whammy bar, work at a taffy factory.:smack:

Re: Jake E. Lee did it?

I hate whammy bars...and don't use them...

But I like neck/headstockbends...and use them alot..and it's a different sound, though it's the same principle..

Jake was Good...

Randy was great...

Schenker is the Master..and broke headstocks and necks all the time...he's friggin SCARY to watch doing it...he's very precise with the pitch and duration, but extremely aggressive doing it.

Re: Jake E. Lee did it?

lot of 'em in this tune...he's bending the back of the neck with his thumb, and also while he's fretting/playing notes during the solo

unfortunately the quality here is crap..off synch..some skips
linky

Re: Jake E. Lee did it?

Why not just do like Zakk ? hold your chord with your 2,3,4 fingers, leaving your 1 finger to push the strings down behind the nut.
And with super heavy strings no less.

It depends on the effect you´re trying to achieve... If you want to lower the pitch for example, then either a whammy bar or a neck /headstock bend is more or less the only way to go.... But to raise the pitch you can certainly do a behind the nut bend such as Zakk does..

What the hell does Steve Vai have to do with knowing a 4th chord and bending the neck?

Back on topic, I like holding the guitar by the body with both hands and just shaking the hell out of it.

Re: Jake E. Lee did it?

Its all in what effect you want to acheive, using a trem isn't fun to me. Although a floyd busting out some artifical harmonic on the 4th fret is just cool!

"getcha pull"

Re: Jake E. Lee did it?

i do ocassionally since my tremolo's still broke but im always affraid of breaking the neck. i also suspect that this also screws up tuning as well so i try to avoid it. i really want to get a whammy petal
